Southington Fire Department
The Southington Fire Department (SFD) is a paid fire department which serves the incorporated Town of Southington, Connecticut. The department is divided into five companies housed in four fire stations. Fire headquarters, at 310 North Main Street, houses Headquarters Company (full time, career) and Engine Company 1 (part time, paid-on-call). There are three additional part time, paid-on-call stations: Company 2 in the village of Plantsville, Company 3 in Milldale and one in the Patton Brook area, Company 5. Company 4, in Marion was merged with Company 3 in 1992.
Company 1 was founded in 1884 as a volunteer fire service with Company 2 following shortly afterwards. By 1952, with volunteers now operating as paid-on-call firefighters, full time firefighters were added as regular employees at Company 1. The full time force joined the International Association of Fire Fighters in 1971 as IAFF Local 2033. In 2009, the volunteer paid-on-call force was reorganized into part-time regular employees.

Explanation of the numbering of units
The Engines of the SFD are numbered as such, the first number indicates company, the second number indicates the running order of the piece within the company. For example, Engine 12 is assigned to Company 1, Engine 12 is also the second due piece for HQ/Company 1, hence, Engine 12.
Units such as the brush trucks are numbered according to which company they belong to. Ladder trucks are numbered according to running order. The only unit which does not have a number is the SRU.
