Sonja Vectomov (sculptor)
Sonja Vectomov (born 8 June 1957) is a Czech-Finnish sculptor based in Jyväskylä, Finland, known for her bronze statues of Finnish cultural figures.
In 2010, Kauko Sorjonen commissioned Vectomov to create a statue of Wivi Lönn, an early 20th-century architect and feminist who designed several buildings in Jyväskylä. The statue was unveiled in a private park on the grounds of Sorjonen's home, the very mansion Lönn once lived in. The statue's pedestal features an outline of the house, a reference to a similar detail Lönn included on the frontispiece of a doghouse she had designed.
In 2015, Kauko Sorjonen commissioned Vectomov to create a statue of painter Reidar Särestöniemi for the Reidar Särestöniemi Museum, marking both the painter's 90th birthday and the museum's 30th anniversary.
In July 2020, Vectomov's bronze sculpture Kevään airut ("Harbinger of Spring"), depicting a crane taking flight and cast by Erkki Liukkonen, was unveiled in the front yard of the Silva Mansion in Mänttä, recently acquired by the Kauko Sorjonen Foundation. Later that same year, she exhibited a series of large-scale papier-mâché depictions of the SARS-CoV-2 virus interacting with the classical four elements at Taidetalo Pässimäki, a gallery also run by the foundation.
Vectomov has taught at Jyväskylä City Art School, which offers art education for children and young people. Tätitrio primarily adheres to scripted, memorized texts, with the odd improvisational reverie intended to spur audience participation.
