Smuggler (production company)

Smuggler is a production company founded in 2002 by Patrick Milling Smith and Brian Carmody. Smuggler is home to a unique roster of directing talent alongside an experienced and multifaceted bi-coastal production and management team. Awarded ‘Production Company of the Year’ by several leading industry magazines and award shows in the past few years, Smuggler has also brought home the coveted Cannes Lions Grand Prix, the Palme D'Or, and an Emmy amongst other accolades. Smuggler has appeared at the Sundance Film Festival where the branded content short film "Force 1", created for eBay, was an official selection, and created several branded content television shows for ABC. Smuggler most recently opened its doors in the UK and has joined with Evamere Entertainment this year to launch Smuggler Films.

Smuggler is home to a number of esteemed directors. Chris Smith directed, shot and produced the cult classics "American Movie", "Home Movie" and "Yes Men". Smith's latest film, "The Pool" was awarded the audience prize at Sundance Film Festival in 2008 and nominated for the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award. Bennett Miller's "Capote" received several Oscar nods and was awarded best actor for Philip Seymour Hoffman. Henry-Alex Rubin was nominated in the best documentary category at the Academy Awards for his film "Muderball". Henry-Alex Rubin also won the Cannes Integrated Lion for his "Whopper Freakout" campaign for Crispin Porter + Bogusky. "Whopper Freakout" was perhaps one of the most successful campaigns of 2008 and was an internet sensation, spawning numerous viral parodies. The Adicolor Short Film "Green' picked up a variety of awards in 2006 for editing and production design from acclaimed directing team HAPPY . Smuggler's short film "Jane Lloyd" won countless accolades in the film festival circuit, including the London Film Festivals highest honor, Best Short Film. Smuggler also has over 15 pieces of television work included in the MOMA's permanent collection in New York.
