Skiddle Ltd
Skiddle Ltd or simply Skiddle is a Preston-based business dealing with events, bookings, ticketing systems and includes one of the UK's largest What's On Guides, receiving a Hitwise Top 10 Award every month since 2008 and in August 2011, Skiddle was awarded the Hitwise Top 6 Award.
History
Skiddle was launched in May 2001 by Richard Dyer and Ben Sebborn. It was initially launched as a What's on Guide for Preston in Lancashire.
The business evolved from an earlier project ran by Dyer called StudentWeekly, which he ran whilst studying at Cumbria Institute of the Arts and Skiddle.com was born after Dyer met business partner Sebborn who studied Computer Sciences at UCLAN.
Skiddle was the first ticket selling website to offer promoters with online management of their events in 2001.
The business has evolved to supply tickets for almost every venue in the UK, developed market leading ticketing technologies and is in regular attendance at most major UK festivals.
Skiddle was rebranded in 2011 to include the strapline: "Weekends Matter" reflecting the evolution of the business from an events tickets site and what's on guide to a website which covers a wide range of listings, tickets and other booking opportunities such as hotels and restaurants.
Festivals
Festivals are a key element to the summer season in the UK and as a ticket distribution organisation Skiddle has held a number of ticket distribution deals. In 2005 Skiddle sponsored it's first dance tent at The Wickerman Festival and has gone on to sponsor a number of festival tents in the intervening years.
At the 2010 RockNess Festival Skiddle introduced the SKIDDLEBUS, a multimedia broadcast bus for live coverage allowing festival goers to upload their content using the internet. The SKIDDLEBUS is now a regular feature at UK festivals as well as being used by organisations such as the BBC.
As an additional service Skiddle developed their own ticketing technology which has been used as The Primary ticketing facility by numerous festivals in the UK.
Venue Management
Skiddle has developed a system which allows users to generate their own content which can then be added to their website. This has facilitated the growth of the venues database to around 21,000 venues listed in the UK.
Industry Pundits
Due to the amount of data collected by Skiddle, the company is often quoted in national newspapers.
