Sigma psi kappa

Sigma Psi Kappa(ΣΨΚ), Inc., often abbreviated to "Sigma Psi", is a local social sorority. Founded at NJIT in 1992, the sisters of this unique Greek-Lettered organization share common ideals, such as service and scholarship, and primarily engage in activities that exemplify those ideals, such as community service and study sessions.

History

On November 8, 1992, Elfie Almadin, Jeannie Lee, Chin Yu (Jenny) Lin, Rebeca Luengo, and Omnia Samra, the founding sisters of Sigma Psi Kappa, gathered together with the goal of starting their own ideal sorority. They envisioned a family of women, strong independently but stronger united, who would strive together to attain excellence in every endeavor. Their main focus was on creating a sisterhood firmly rooted in Service, Scholarship and Strength. The motto became "Sisterhood by Friendship," and the colors, letters and by-laws were developed around this credo.

On February 22, 1993, Sigma Psi Kappa was granted probationary status by the Inter Fraternity/Sorority Council (IFSC, the governing body of the fraternities and sororities on campus). After completing the necessary steps to become a full member of the IFSC, Sigma Psi Kappa gained recognition on November 15, 1993 as a Greek Letter Organization in the IFSC. This is a crucial part in our history, as we are a local sorority (one which exists only on one or two campuses; a product of a group of individuals who didn't find what they liked, and created their own organization) out of NJIT.

Since that time Sigma Psi Kappa has become a strong organization on campus, known for sponsoring two blood drives per semester on campus and being a fun group of girls. We have had over 76 members initiated into the sorority and will keep growing strong!
