Shropshire Youth Theatre

Shropshire Youth Theatre LTD (Shrewsbury Youth Theatre inc) is a non-profit organisation which is run by committee members who are voted in annually by the senior members.

SYT is a drama group based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, that does a main theatre production per year. They are well known for their spectacular, professional-level performances, despite being a young amateur dramatics company. Their shows are often mistaken for professional productions by much of the audience. Shropshire Youth Theatre, which was founded in 1993, is a professionally staffed theatre company who train young actors in a variety of skills, from boosting their confidence, to characterization.

SYT breaks down into three groups: Primary (ages 5–9, starting at 10.30 am and ending at 12 noon) every Saturday, the Juniors (aged 10–14, starting at 10 am and ending at 12 noon) each Saturday, and finally the seniors (aged 14–25, starting at 7 pm, ending at 9:30 pm) held each Thursday night. All of these are held at the Hive Shrewsbury.

Committee

To run for the committee, one must be a Senior member for one year, at the AGM (annual general meeting) you must nominate or be nominated to run for committee and this must be secounded by any other senior or current committee member, then you must be on the committee for another year to run for a position once nominated and seconded each participant will do a speech then leave the room for the votes,unless there are the same amount of participants as there are avalible spaces, e.g two people running for two vaccenceys then they get the position, however if there are more participants then vaccenceys then each candidate will do a speech, then leave the room when all candidates are out of the room then the chair will allow a vote each senior member has the same amount of votes as vaccencey's, the secutary will record the votes and if there is a equal draw the chair will have the casting vote/decistion,the same rules apply to the committee members running for the position as normal members running for the position. The committee positions are: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The roles for the committee are: website editor and junior rep, filled in by the four non position members. The committee: Chair, Vice chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Artistic Director (Head employee of SYT Ltd) and four non position members.

The committee meet every other Thursday before the senior SYT session, or more often if circumstances change; it is a private meeting so the public, employees and SYT members are not allowed be present in the meeting unless invited to by the committee.
