ShowBiz Cinemas
ShowBiz Cinemas is an American cinemas operator. It was founded by Kevin L. Mitchell, son of Cinemark Theatres founder Lee Roy Mitchell. The company operates 42 screens in the State of Texas.
History
ShowBiz Cinemas was founded in 2007 by Kevin L. Mitchell, who serves as president and CEO of the company. Prior to the company's founding, Mitchell worked with his father Lee Roy Mitchell's company Cinemark Theatres. During his tenure Cinemark grew from a local cinema company to an international firm with over 4,500 screens under management. ShowBiz Cinemas is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and is the owner/operator of 42 cinema screens in the state. Locations of its cinemas include Houston, Waxahachie, Granbury, and others in Texas. In addition to new theatre construction, over time ShowBiz has also acquired cinema locations from other companies.
Theatre practices
ShowBiz Cinemas was the first company in Texas to offer D-Box theatre chairs in its cinemas, which are programmed to provide motion effects for the movie-goer specific to the film being watched. It also uses Volfoni 3D film viewing technology in its theatres. The company also provides assistance programs to those unable to afford the theatre, including 50 cent movie tickets and discounted tickets for US veterans and underprivileged children. Showbiz cinemas have been the site for film premieres, including the Chuck Norris documentary Answering the Call AbOUT Norris' 2007 visit with the combat troops overseas during the Iraq War. The event was also used to support Norris' martial arts-based program Kickstart, which teaches martial arts to at-risk teenagers. ShowBiz also provides additional activities for patrons.
Corporate information
The company is a member of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce. The company has also been awarded the Exhibitor of the Year award by the Tri-State Independent Theatre Owners Association. ShowBiz is involved in several local charities, including Animal Rescue causes. In 2013 ShowBiz struck a deal with the city of Waxahachie, Texas for the expansion of its cinema facilities there, after showing an increase in movie-goers of about 500,000 per year with 72% coming in from outside the city limits since they took over the city's cinema location.
