Re-Election

Shirley Wadding ran against Democrats Ron Good, Frank Tatone, and Republican John Wright, for city council at large. She defeated Ron Good in the primaries, and both she and incumbent Frank Tatone retained their at large seats in the general election.

Annexation Battle

When the issue surfaced in May of 1993, Wadding told the Northwest Indiana Times that she supported the annexation of the unincorporated Hobart Township.

Lake Station's First Female Mayor

Tuesday, November 7, 1995, Shirley Wadding (D) became Lake Station's first female mayor defeating Republican opponent James Vanderlin (R) by approximately 320 votes. Prior to that she served two terms as an at-large councilwoman from 1988-1996. She served three terms as mayor from 1996-2008. In 2007 Wadding announced that she would not seek re-election. During her tenure as mayor she the accomplishments of the covered bridge, Veterans Park, Boys & Girls Club, Senior Center, Food Pantry, and the new library took place under her administration.
