Shakira Martínez
Shakira Martínez (born November 16, 2000) is a Spanish singer of flamenco, flamenco pop, salsa, and bachata. She rose to prominence on social media with her performances of cover songs and has developed a music career with national tours across Spain and collaborations with well-known artists.
Early life
Shakira Martínez began singing at the age of seven, encouraged in secret by her maternal grandmother, Lina Vargas, a flamenco singer with a 48-year career, including 16 years in the Carmen Mota Ballet in Tenerife. Due to her shyness, she kept her talent hidden until a family gathering, where, motivated by her grandmother, she performed a religious hymn.
By the age of eight, she was already performing songs such as Orobroy and La saeta del Cristo de los Gitanos with a theatre company from Sax. A year later, she began elementary piano studies at the conservatory, which she did not complete due to her family's relocation to Tenerife.
In 2013, she recorded a Christmas video with her cousin Rubén Muñoz, performing "Veré la estrella" by Maldita Nerea as a greeting to her family, which marked the beginning of her presence on digital platforms. Later on, she released several musical covers on YouTube, including "Hoy tengo ganas de ti" by Miguel Gallardo, "Porque" by Manuel Carrasco, "Aún no te has ido" by Vanesa Martín, and "Mi marciana" by Alejandro Sanz, becoming viral in a very short time.
During her teenage years, she received offers from television shows such as La Voz Kids, La Voz (adults), Got Talent. However, her parents decided she should finish her education before pursuing a professional career. During this period, she trained with flamenco singer , a two-time winner at the .
Musical career
After completing high school, Martínez chose to pursue a professional career in flamenco singing, turning down her initial interest in biochemistry. She began formal flamenco studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Murcia under the tutelage of professor Curro Piñana.
In 2019, she gained notable attention when invited to sing at the wedding of footballer Sergio Ramos and Pilar Rubio. She performed Porque by Manuel Carrasco, a rendition that surpassed 11 million views on YouTube.
In 2020, she participated in a symphonic project of Lorca-inspired songs with the Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatorio Superior de Murcia, conducted by José Miguel Rodilla. She also performed live on social media, appearing with artists such as Alejandro Sanz and Antonio Orozco. That same year, she was featured in Alejandro Sanz's documentary El mundo fuera.
She signed a publishing contract with Warner and released the song Hasta el infinito in collaboration with Maki, surpassing 11 million views. Her first official single, Pensando en tu sonrisa, was produced by Paco Ortega with arrangements by Jony Losada.
In 2021, she released "Quiero que me olvides" with Pepe Bernabé, followed by No me arrepiento in collaboration with Moncho Chavea. That same year, she performed with India Martínez and was nominated as Flamenco Breakthrough Artist at the 2022 Odeón Awards.
In 2023, Martínez participated in several high-profile events. In August, she joined Alejandro Sanz on stage to perform "Mi persona favorita", and in October, she was invited to perform with the group CAMELA. In 2024, she collaborated with Pitingo on a version of the song Lucha por su dinero, which received such acclaim that a standalone version was released.
"Abrázame" Tour (2025)
For her first EP Abrázame, Martínez collaborated with producer Chus Santana. Martínez launched an eponymous tour across Spain, includes performances in Seville (Cartuja Center), Madrid, and Barcelona. It features collaborations with artists like Nyno Vargas, Polo Nández, and Benja Torres.
