Sean Michael (American actor)
Sean Michael, (also known as Sean Ruegsegger and his stage name Sean Michael Afable, born November 20 1988), is an American actor, best known for playing the role of Dylan Chiu in Akeelah and the Bee.
Biography
Sean was born in Southern California on November 20th, 1988, raised in a biracial (of Filipino and European descent) family. He has one brother named Robby and 18 first cousins. He also has a pet cat named Winston. Sean graduated from Parkridge Private School, an online school, on November 20, 2005, his 17th birthday.
At the age of six, Sean’s parents, Robert and Gigi, started him in acting classes. Sean landed his first roles in Burger King and Chuck E Cheese commercials. He has since studied under several acting coaches, more recently with Steven G. Lowe at The Actors Room for the past several years. He has stated that his passions include film, television, voice-over, theater, singing, and dance.
He is an alumnus of the All American Boys Chorus, a boys choir in Southern California.
He is a professing Christian and is active in his church.
Akeelah and the Bee
Sean's first starring role was in the movie Akeelah and the Bee as Dylan Chiu, a rival of Keke Palmer's role. In Akeelah and the Bee, Sean plays an over-achieving and intelligent student who is Akeelah Anderson's rival in the National Spelling Bee.
Guest star roles
He has guest starred on several television series, including the Disney Channel series That's So Raven and Phil of the Future. In an episode called "Versa Day," he played the science geek in Pim's science class. He also guest starred on Zoey 101. His character only has a line which is "teacher" and chanting "fight, fight, fight" on episode "Robot War." In the episode, Sean Michael is identified by his purple striped long sleeved shirt. He also guest starred on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide as one of the Killer Bees in the episode "Guide to Sick Days and Spelling Bees."
