SeaLand Isle

International SeaLand Enterprises or SeaLand Isle as it has been referred to is the name given to an area of approximately 6,000,000 square nautical miles (21,000,000 km²) in the East Pacific Ocean claimed by Bob Schott, International SeaLand Enterprises, California, USA in 1975. The project is the creation of actor, film and TV producer Bob Schott, 'Who's Who in America 2006' Special Diamond Edition, Marquis 'Who's Who in America 2007' and Marquis 'Who's Who in the World 2007, who appeared in the Clint Eastwood motion picture In the Line of Fire.

Claim to property

In 1975 Robert Schott filed a sophisticated and unprecedented claim to over 6 million square statute miles (16,000,000 km²) of deep sea bed in the East Pacific Ocean. His claim was the result of a project that had began years before when he began researching, developing and compiling exact and pertinent data on this most sophisticated project.

Claimant

Robert Schott formerly of Beverly Hills, California founded a company known as International SeaLand Enterprises, (ISLE) in 1975 to develop what he called the Last Frontier on Earth said to be the common heritage of mankind. He claimed that he "was unwilling to wait and see this last remaining abundance of resources taken over by any government or huge multinational companies to the exclusion of the people, while they extract these valuable resources and sell back to the people what they should be able to share in to begin with."

Mapping of claim

After mapping and dividing the claim into legally described sections in September 1975, ISLE gave notice to the US Secretary of State, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, President of the United Nations, major oil companies and major countries of the world. Schott also obtained the assistance and cooperation with Scripps Institute Naval Oceanographic center for some of his boundary elements.

Comparison of claims

A similar claim to 10,000 square miles (26,000 km²) within the same geographical area was also made by Deep-Sea Ventures of Virginia for purposes of mining. Neither knew of the other's claim at the time. ISLE acknowledges this other claim and further states that both claims were established prior to the passage of international laws and treaties concerning this area.

Law of the Sea

In 1975 Robert Schott created by-laws to offer "safeguard protection of the seabed environment and for the benefit of mankind as a whole" which he claims were copied years later by the U.S. and U.N. and incorporated into their proposed bills. Point I of the ISLE By-Laws was included in the Report of the Delegation to the Xlth Session of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of March 8 - April 30, 1982, which was 7 years after Robert Schott made his claim. The Law of the Seas Treaties have been referred to as the most sophisticated and complicated legal negotiations in maritime history. Through his efforts, Bob Schott's 1975 ISLE claim stunned the top legal minds of over 130 countries around the world ultimately causing the U.S. to later develop Public Law Bill 96-283, passed by Congress, with other countries of the world disdaining from other U.N. Law of the Sea's bills.

Deeds

International SeaLand Enterprises has been offering deeds for sale to the territory of its claim that was prior to any existing laws governing control and ownership of the deepsea bed. To this date Schott and ISLE's claim has never been contested.
