As is the case with other Web Content Management Systems, SDL Tridion has its strengths and weaknesses. For a more detailed view on this, independent reports from CMS Watch or Forrester Research are recommended (see links below).

Company history

Tridion was founded in 1999 by ex-employees of Twinspark (a Dutch services organisation). In 2000, Tridion expanded into other European countries and has since opened offices in the USA and in Asia-Pacific.

Tridion was until May 2007 a private company when it was acquired by SDL plc. Its financial records show it to be profitable for several years now, and the company expanded notably throughout 2007–2008.

In October 2008, SDL Tridion appointed a new CEO, Jan Jaap Kolleman, who replaced Pieter Varkevisser. Pieter Varkevisser had been CEO of SDL Tridion for 4.5 years.

In December 2008, SDL Tridion launched SDL Tridion World aimed at serving their community of customers and partners with free downloads, technical articles and access to online support.
