Screenplay Series with Syd Field
Screenplay Series is an in-depth analysis and personal interview series with some of Hollywood's most successful writers and directors. The InterViews are conducted and guided by one of today's leading instructors of screenwriting, Syd Field.
Acclaimed as "the guru of all screenwriters" (CNN, 2006), Syd Field is regarded by many Hollywood professionals to be the leading authority in the art & craft of screenwriting in the world today. The Hollywood Reporter calls him "the most sought-after screenwriting teacher in the world."
The focus is on writers and directors whose work is current, relevant & challenging. Interviews are conversational yet poignant, and cover a broad range of topics surrounding a particular film and the writer's career. Topics include background history, successful creation and formation of controversial concepts and IDeaS, scene breakdowns, and more.
The first series guest is the 2007 Oscar winner for best screenplay, Michael Arndt for Little Miss Sunshine. Other interviews include Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the writer/director team of Half Nelson and Gowanus, NY. Also Richard Linklater and Eric Schlosser of Fast Food Nation, Stuart Beattie, writer of Pirates of the Caribbean and Collateral, as well as Simon Kinberg of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, X-Men and [...].
The interviews are broadcast in a series of "webisodes" via video blog site as podcast/rss feed. Webisodes are video blogs set to run for approximately 4-8 minutes for optimal web length. Each interview (webisode) contains usually three separate pods. By taking advantage of existing technologies, the series will strive to create interaction & feedback with its audience, constantly adapting & evolving as the series develops.

Field chaired the Academic Liaison Committee at the Writer's Guild of America, West, is currently on faculty at the USC Master's of Professional Writing Program, has taught at Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, the AFI and many other noted institutions. He has been a special script consultant to 20th Century Fox, the Disney Studios, Universal and Tri-Star Pictures.
