SOCW EP review - Devolution magazine Issue 19
SOCW are a Goth/metal/industrial six piece from the Northwest United Kingdom. Their sound is one of traditional goth meets an entirely more modern electronic style. You may recall these Goth metallers in Issue 18, where we featured an interview with the band. This four track EP serves as a precursor to their anticipated 2009 release 'Della Luna'. The CD is a great demonstration of what is to come. A defining collection of four tracks representing their enriched and varied sound, a sound that has already caught the eye of the British Goth scene, and that has lead to impending slots at the upcoming Whitby Gothic Weekend. Screams of Cold Winter unite traditional and modern Goth music in a way that is seamless. Crunching guitar riffs chunter alongside soaring female vocals and industrial percussion. The sound is quite fresh and heavy, occasionally choosing to lean intentionally towards a single aspect of its genre instead of combining all three. This should be on the MusicAL list for any fan of traditional goth music as well as the traditionalists.
