Scoil Uí Cheatharnaigh

Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh is an Irish-teaching national school in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. The school has around 165 pupils, and seven teachers, and its site comprises nine classrooms, two offices, a hall, a library, and three playgrounds. The school is currently cleaning up the surrounding areas to try to win a Green Flag.

History

Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh was founded in 1989, with nine pupils, before expanding into Society Street premises, where it ocucpied a four-classroom site with two playgrounds. It started of with just one house with just nine pupils(now has around 165 pupils), it expanded to Society St with two playgrounds, an office and around 4 classrooms. It moved to its current premises in 2005. The school has won a lot of prizes throughout the years including Gaelic Football, Hurling, Quizzes(The Credit Quiz, Conradh na Gaeilge and The Garda Siochana Quiz).

Location

Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh is located near to two other secondary schools: Garbally College (boys secondary school), and Ard Scoil Mhuire (girls secondary school). It also near Portiuncla Hospital. The school is shaped like a giant "H". The old location was split up into two buildings with two playgrounds.
