History
Computers were first introduced to Eastern Book Company in 1983 with Texas INSTRUMENTS TI-99/4A . For the generation of Digest, index cards for each Digest entry was manually arranged in alphabetical order. The data prepared after the aforementioned process was then stored in 5 ¼- inch floppy disks. In 1986, the idea for launching the Case Finder was conceived and the data was stored in the 3 ½ inch floppy disks. With introduction of CD-ROM for storing the data, the CD writer with 1x speed was purchased and the data on the CD, which earlier only included the digest entries, was later, in 2000, expanded to include the full text of Supreme Court Judgments. The Central Statutes, Law Commission Reports and Constitutional Assembly Debates were added in the year 2001 and the data of various High Courts was being incorporated thereafter with Bombay High Court leading the march in 2003 with a tie up with Maharashtra Law Journal. Finally, in the year 2008, the entire database was made available on a web portal which was christened as SCC Online® Web Edition. Eastern Book Company’s first foreign collaboration was with the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting (ICLR) of England for addition of the Indian Appeals to the database and plethora of foreign material was added to the database subsequently.
