Salim Muhood Adem v. George W. Bush

Salim Muhood Adem v. George W. Bush (Civil Action No. 05-CV-00723) is a writ of habeas corpus filed on behalf of Guantanamo captive Salim Muhood Adem.

In 2006 Salim Muhood Adem petitioned the court because camp authorities had not allowed him to meet with the attorney his family had selected to help him file his habeas corpus petition. The Department Of Justice was claimed his attorney had not provided evidence that he was authorized to act as his attorneys. US District Court Judge Alan Kay ruled a previous judicial rulings had not required that attorneys prove they had been authorized prior to visiting with a captive. The previous ruling had merely required that the captive explicitly authorize the attorney within ten days of that first visit. Kay declined to rule that the Bush administration was in contempt.

This ruling was widely cited by other attorneys who the Bush Administration had denied access to their clients.

On 3 July 2008 US District Court Judge Thomas F. Hogan listed this habeas petition on a list where former captives were eligible to seek relief.
