Website

Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies (SICAS), founded in 2001, is aprivate fee-paying academic institution located at Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. SICAS provides secondary education and preparation for General Certificate of Education (GCE). The institution has currently one purpose built campus in Gulberg Town. SICAS is part of the Salamat School System, a group of academic institutions located in Lahore city.

The institution follows a curriculum designed to culminate in GCE O Level and GCE AS/A Level qualifications from British examination board of University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) of Cambridge Assessment (UCLES).

SICAS is also classified as an international university-preparatory school, giving its students the opportunity to apply to foreign universities for admission into undergraduate programs.

History

In 1974, Madam Salamat, a notable educationalist in Lahore, opened the Kids Kampus which offered preschool education. Alongside Kids Campus, Junior Kampus was also opened in 1976 which offered junior school education. In 1978, Madam Salamat also started the Salamat Academy. The institution was coeducational offering middle school and secondary school education and prepared its graduating students for the SSC examination (also known as Matriculation at local level), a national examination taken by Students of Pakistan on completion of their ten years of education. The Salamat group of institutions quickly rose to fame.

In 1985, due to increased number of students willing to join Salamat Academy, the institution was split up into two further institutions: Salamat School for Boys and Salamat School for Girls. Hence, the system of coeducation in Salamat Academy came to an end but still remains in the Kids Campus and Junior Kampus.

In 2001, the Salamat Schools started offering preparation for the international General Certificate of Education O Level examinations along with the national SSC examinations. However, GCE O Level went up to Grade 11 while SSC Matriculation only went up to Grade 10. GCE O Level is also considered equivalent of SSC Matriculation in Pakistan. Apart from that, preparation for international GCE A Level was also introduced which composed of Grade 12 and 13. GCE A Level is considered equivalent to national HSC F.A/F.Sc intermediate qualifications. Preparation for HSC, however, is not available in the Salamat institutions and composes of Grade 11 and Grade 12. Both GCE O Level and A Level are taken under the management of University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) division of Cambridge Assessment (UCLES), an examination board which takes its roots from The Famous University of Cambridge inEngland. The international GCE qualifications were taught in a separate campus which followed a coeducational orientation in Grade 12-13 (GCE A Level). It was named Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies and came to be commonly referred as SICAS in short.

In 2001, another institution was made alongside SICAS and was named International Campus for Advanced Sciences or ICAS. It provides education from Preschool to Grade 11 and has currently three branches: ICAS Junior (Preschool to Grade 3, alternative to Kids Kampus and Junior Kampus), ICAS Prep (Grade 4-8) and ICAS Girls (Grade 9-11). In CONTRAST with SICAS, ICAS Girls started in 2003 instead of 2001, is gender specific to girls and not boys, offers GCE O Level preparation only and not A Level. It must be noticed that SICAS only preparation offers GCE O Level to boys only whereas ICAS Girls provides to girls while SICAS provides preparation for GCE A Level to both.

All academic institutions: Kids Kampus (KK), Junior Kampus (JK), Salamat School for Boys (SSB), Salamat School for Girls (SSG), International Campus for Advanced Studies (ICAS) and SICAS came to be collectively known as the Salamat School System or SSS with Madam Salamat acting as their managing director.

In 2006, SICAS was shifted to a new purpose-built campus. In 2008, SICAS ended its coeducational orientation and created separate branches for boys and girls at A Level. However, this was reversed a year later, in 2009. In 2009, the institution started offering international GCE Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level qualifications under administration of CIE, which are taken at the end of Grade 12 in Pakistan. These cover half of The Syllabus of GCE A Level.

House system

There are a total of four Houses at SICAS, namely: Salam, Tipu, Faiz and Qasim.

  • Faiz House (named after Faiz Ahmed Faiz)

  • Qasim House (named after Muhammad bin Qasim)

  • Salam House (named after Abdus Salam)

  • Tipu House (named after Tipu Sultan)

Each House has its distinct motto and is represented by its own flag. A house point system is in place that enables the end-of-the-year House rankings that determine the winner of the three cups:

  1. Houses participating in co-curricular and sports events are awarded points that go towards the Co Curricular and Sports Cup.
  2. Points from academic achievements of House Members go towards the Academic Cup.
  3. Behaviour points are also awarded, and the demerits of school rule infractions are subtracted, to give a tally of points that go towards the Proficiency Cup.

The House Captains, whose task is to rally fellow House members and to select individuals for team events, are elected through a nomination and voting system. Housemasters and Housemistresses are also appointed and they are responsible in overseeing the performance and discipline of their respective Houses.

Student government

The Head Boy and Head Girl give head to a group of selected students (from Grade 13) called the Student Council. The Student Council Advisor supports the organization.
