Said Hijal
Said Hijal is considered one the biggest names in architecture in Lebanon. He founded in association with Anis Chaar, Eduardo Afif and Samir Bardawil in 1959 the first construction and trade company that was initiated in Lebanon housing estates'sales- SODECO which stands for Societe de Construction. This professional group mainly built most of sodeco district's buildings until 1964. Alone, he participated in the conception of school establishments, with the Amlieh school, Omar Ibn El Khatab Street (1947), and Makassed schools, Achrafieh Street (1953) and 22nd of November Avenue (1957). Also, he was the author of the Cinema Rivoli Beirut(1946-1952) in the Beirut Downtown that was destroyed in 1992 to clear an avenue on the axis of the Martyr's Square. In addition to his construction development, Said Hijal was the founder of SOLIVER, a glass manufacturing company which had a license from Saint-Gobin in France, as well as a plastic and metal company (PLAMETCO) and trade company for construction Material (CONSTRAMAT).
