Ruby Hill Winery
Ruby Hill Winery is an historic defunct winery in the Livermore Valley, located on the site of what is now Mitchell Katz Winery.
Like a number of regions in California, in pre-prohibition times there were many wineries in the Livermore Valley that no longer exist except as ruins. Ruby Hill was one of those, producing large quantities of wine starting in the 1880s. The winery building itself was built in the town of Pleasanton, California by John Crellin in 1887, with money made in the oyster trade. The Ruby Hill motto at one time was "gem of wines." The winery was eventually abandoned, and in 1989 burned, leaving only a few walls standing.
