Ron Laytner

Born in Canada, Ron Laytner started his career as a young freelance photographer for the Toronto Telegram Newspaper, where he set records for front page pictures. After winning the National Newspaper Award for a photograph of a Brownie kicking a Girl Scout, he was hired by the Toronto Star. Soon he was pursuing stories for Life Magazine, Paris Match, The London Sunday Times and hundreds of other publications around the world. Recently the London Sunday Times Magazine included 'The Brownie' photograph Laytner took at the beginning of his career as one of The Greatest Photographs ever taken. That same photo was also featured in 'The Best of Life ' and in the 1964 World's Fair at the Eastman Kodak Pavilion.

In 1972 Laytner wrote a book on Howard Hughes, for the New York Times from his InterViews with Robert Mahue, who ran Hughes' Las Vegas empire. He is working on a book of his many adventures titled Get Off The Queen's foot and preparing an exhibit of his Life And Death Photography.

In 1974 Ron Laytner married Linda Larkins in St. Moritz, Switzerland and then set off with her on a round-the-world honeymoon show easy it was to break airport security. They carried a suitcase containing two sub-machineguns and two pistols without being caught. They were praised by the Director of the US Secret Service, Stuart Knight, and flown to Washington. The story ran in Life Magazine, Paris Match, Stern and other great magazines around the world.

Laytner is credited with finding. interviewing and photographing the legendary Pearl Harbor Spy Takeo Yoshikawa on an island in the South of Japan,interviews and photographs with [...]'s flying heroine, the historic [Hanna Reitsch] . He did the same with Benjamin Mendoza, the Bolivian artist who dressed as a priest and attempted to assassinate Pope Pius in Manila in the Philippines. He also got exclusive interviews with Pedro Alonzo Lopez in a prison in Ecuador. Lopez murdered at least 250 young girls and was finally released after 20 years because there was no death penalty in Ecuador. Police in Peru, Columbia and Ecuador are using Laytner's photographs in an attempt to locate the mass serial killer.
