Early life and career
Roman Seth Griffin Dent was born on November 7, 1988 in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the son of Health Care mogul Thompson Dent, owner and/or executive of HealthStream, Urgent Team, Re:Cognition Health, and the former PhyCor Inc. His mother is published romance author Joy Dent. At age thirteen, Roman Dent landed his first gig directing a corporate video for FCA. Between 2004-2007 Dent had a brief stint as an actor, appearing in a regional TV commercial, Beneath the Blue, and winning Best Overall Actor at the 2009 AMTC at age fifteen. In 2007-08 Dent received high accolades in track & field, for which he won multiple state championships and achieved national rank, and was named an All-American at the 2007 Nike Indoor Nationals. Dent commented that the sport was "just a means to an end" as his true passion was film. Earning a track & field scholarship to the prestigious College of William & Mary, he earned a bachelor of science at the Public Ivy, notable alumni of which include Jon Stewart, Glenn Close, and U.S. President Thomas Jefferson. In 2010, Dent made his directing debut with the music video for Billboard Top 40 artists and Reality TV Star Jessie James Decker, effectively helping to launch his early career. In 2012 Dent co-founded Platinum Atlantic™ in Los Angeles, California, a stable of content developers and producers.
Best known for his women empowerment documentary titled Driven, the piece features five strong minded women entertainers in various stages of their careers and lives and attempts to explore their struggles as women in their selected fields. The film caught the attention of several organizations; most notably was The Step Up Women's Network, who called Driven "the new doc you need to see", and said the film "empowers women... to pursue seemingly impossible dreams". Dent acknowledged how critical he feels Driven's message is for today's audience; "we wanted to tell a story that would attempt to inspire those who do so much to inspire us - women." In 2012, Dent was interviewed by the popular youth-centric tabloid Her Campus, in which he shared some of his earlier views on women in society.
