Rocinante (band)
The 2003 formation of Rocinante brought France another dose of country soaked pop. With former Tin Whistle guitarist Raphaella Dason and ex-Aerobeagle bassist Ed Cooper Providing the dual male-female vocal harmonies, they completed a MusicAL package of hauntingly, bittersweet ballads. After the moderate success of Rocinante's first single Smile in 2003, the duo wrote and released their first full-length album Another Harmless Sound later that year.
Rocinante's music reaps the seeds of soft melodies, bittersweet harmonies. Touching on the alternative country motif, the band seems quite adept at covering slow, wistful ballads as they are upbeat pop. There are obvious differences depending on who sings lead, with songs written by Raphaella Dason having a deliberate yet more uplifting feeling from them, while those by Ed Cooper have a Brian Wilson hue of melancholy throughout.
