Renato García

Renato García Vergara was a Chilean Air Force general who served as Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean Air Force (FACh) in 1955. His brief tenure took place during a period of institutional crisis.

Air Force career

Before his appointment as commander-in-chief, García served as director of the Air War Academy. He also held teaching positions at both the academy and the Aviation School, contributing to the professional education and training of Air Force personnel.

Commander-in-Chief

García assumed command of the Chilean Air Force in 1955, during a period of institutional crisis. His administration focused on the development of training programmes, particularly those conducted at the Air War Academy and the Aviation School.

During his command, García completed the administrative arrangements for the delivery of the final de Havilland Vampire aircraft purchased from the United Kingdom. These aircraft formed part of the Air Force's transition to jet aviation.

García retired from active military service a few months after assuming command, under circumstances described by the Chilean Air Force as being beyond his control.
