Raymond Anthony Fernando

Raymond Anthony Fernando, born in Singapore, educated in St. Andrew's School, is a writer, motivational speaker, advocate for the mentally ill and a television actor. He has played the defense lawyers in the Singapore local courtroom dram, True Files. Raymond is the author of 7 books. "Loving Schizophrenic" is the bestseller on mental health in Singapore.

Raymond is currently an activist for the mentally ill. Today, he continues to champion the rights of and to care for the mentally ill in Singapore. He also gives talks on his experience as a caregiver to his wife, who has recovered from depression and Schizophrenia against all odds. Raymond, who is married, attributes his success to his wife of 30 years, Doris, who undoubtedly is his greatest inspiration. Raymond gave up his 31-year career in the media industry in 2001 to care fulltime for his wife, Doris Lau Siew Lang. Raymond has managed to help her in her recovery and even managed to turn her into an author of 2 cookbooks. Raymond is also a volunteer with the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) to help raise more awareness of Schizophrenia and depression. Raymond has also served as a volunteer for 3 years in the Government Feedback Unit, contributing IDeaS to help in nation building.

Awards

The Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA) Centre for Caregivers has chosen Raymond Anthony Fernando as the winner of the Model Caregiver for the year 2007. On a national level, Raymond was presented with an award (A pewter plate) from the Singapore Police Force in July 1998 for his contribution to road safety and letters of appreciation from government leaders.
