Rapunzel (short film)
Rapunzel is a 2009 short film directed by Pietra Mello Pittman, And Co-written by Pittman with Ella Spira. It is a hi-definition ballet film based on the Brother’s Grimm's book of the same name. The film was shot at the Clore Studio at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden. The project was an artistic collaboration between award winning composer Ella Spira and Royal Ballet first artist Pietra Mello-Pittman making her directorial debut
The film is notable as it was the first time ballet had been shot using hi-definition Red One Technology. The project was a co-production between Sisters Grimm ltd,Debonair Films International and The Royal Opera House. The project credits Mike Figgis as production consultant.
Plot
The plot of the ballet was based on the final chapter of Rapunzel. Blinded from his fall from the tower, the Prince wanders through the wilderness until one day he hears a familiar voice. Despite the darkness, he replies, throwing out his arms. Rapunzel appears through the mist and rushes towards him, shaking with joy. She stops in front of him and begins to weep as they embrace. Her magical tears wash over the Prince’s eyes and he can see Rapunzel’s beauty once more. The re-united couple declare their eternal love for each other. The lovers walk off hand in hand into the sunrise to live happily ever after.
