Radio Starfleet

Radio Starfleet was an Internet radio station run by members of Starfleet International and other Star Trek fans for fans of Star Trek. Most listeners were members of STARFLEET International. The format featured both soundtrack music from various science fiction or fantasy movies or TV series as well as popular music.

The station was started in 2002 in response to those who wanted a Star Trek themed radio station on the Internet. At first, it also offered news and event for members of STARFLEET. In fact most listeners and those who participated by calling in were STARFLEET members.

Radio Starfleet was a not-for-profit station, sustained by listeners' donations and sales from their on-line store of shirt and hats.

Usually an audio only feed, each year Radio STARFLEET hosted a video and audio feed of the STARFLEET International Conference, though because of technical difficulties this did not happen in 2007.

Radio Starfleet was not an official part of STARFLEET International.

On April 13, 2007, the opperators of Radio Starfleet announced over the STARFLEET Mailing List that the station would be shutting down permanently at midnight, Thursday April 19, 2007. This was due to an impending ruling by the Recording Industry Association of America, in favor of an increase in the percentage of royalties paid, retroactive to January 2006.
