Pt Lajja Shankar Jha Model School Jabalpur

Pundit Lajja Shankar Jha Model Higher Secondary School, Jabalpur (Hindi - पंडित लज्जा शंकर झा मॉडल स्कूल) was established in the year 1904 and is likely one of the the oldest schools in Jabalpur (M.P.). The school is affiliated with Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education. It is a Hindi medium Senior Secondary School. It conducts classes from Middle level to Senior Secondary Level (6th grade to 12th grade).

History

‘Pandit Lajja Shankar Jha Model Higher Secondary School’ was established in the year 1904 and is affiliated with the Board of Secondary Education M.P.. Since the state board's inception, the school has had a very rich history (most of it is undocumented).

Pre-Independence, this school was attended by several notable Gandhians, reflecting a rich history. The school has several houses named after famous centers of education from the past, e.g. Nalanda, Takshshila. Pandit Lajja Shankar Jha is the founding head master of the school, who turned 100 in 1970s and the school was renamed after him.

The School has witnessed the long history of evolution in central India's educational system. Over this period of time, school's name has changed many times. Some of its former names include 'Badi Model', 'Pt.Lajja Shankar Jha, Government Model Higher Secondary School, Jabalpur', 'Pt.Lajja Shankar Jha, Model higher secondary School of excellence' etc.

School is located near the High Court Jabalpur (near Ghantaghar), behind PSM Building in front of the collectorate.

Noted Alumni

Late Sheo Prasad Nigam, President's award winner, was the principal during the golden period of school 1954-1962. A great hockey player of his time, he was perhaps the only person in India to get the National Award for teachers, without applying for it himself.

Shri SB Verma, late SV Kanade, late RS Gontiya, Shri NK Sharma are among other national award winners for their outstanding contributions to education.

Aadesh Ahrivastava - a noted composer and singer in Bollywood and Atul Dwivedi a student of Hitkarini College of Engineering and Technology, a state-level competitor in archery were also a students of this school.

Education Awards

School offers several awards for achievements (highest marks secured in exams) in various subjects such as Science and Mathematics etc.. These awards include a symbolic GOLD Medal and a citation.
