Pseudo-METI
There are 5 realized METI (Messaging to Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) projects:
- Arecibo Message (1974), one transmission to Messier 13.
- Cosmic Call 1 (1999), four transmissions to nearby Sun-like stars.
- Teen Age Message (2001), six transmissions.
- Cosmic Call 2 (2003), five transmissions.
- A Message From Earth (2008), one transmission to Gliese 581.
Thus, 17 IRMs (Interstellar Radio Messages) currently on route.
But along with above scientifically grounded METI projects, a bulk of Pseudo-METI projects exist:
- Poetica Vaginal (1986). The Air Force soon found out AbOUT the million-watt Poetica Vaginal broadcast, as Davis calls it, and shut it down.
- Message from Nançay (1987). Nobody can say what parameters had this "message" -- neither about its transmitter's power, nor about its content and methods of encoding.
- Discovery Channel Message (2005)
- Craglist Messages (2005) Deep Space Communication Network uses low power transmitter, small antenna, and addressless transmission.
- CNES Cosmic Connexion (2006)
- Across the Universe (2008)
- Doritos Advert (2008)
- Hello From Earth (2009)
- RuBisCo Message (2009)
and several others, for example: SentForever and Calling ET: Your chance to send a message to alien life
Pseudo-METI aimed at discredit to METI, and represents advertising actions, as a rule...
It is possible that Great Silence occurs because of most civilizations in the Universe prefer surrogate Pseudo-METI profanations and do not make serious METI ???
