Programmable ethernet switching

Programmable Ethernet Switching is an integration of a multi-layer Ethernet switch and network processor units into a new category of devices. This new device helps meet the requirements for next-generation fiber access, Enterprise and data center designs and is a core platform for virtualization in data centers. [1]

Programmable Ethernet switching embeds Xelerated’s wirespeed Data Flow processor architecture with a non-blocking Ethernet switch. [2] It gives design flexibility, feature flexibility, high service availability and application awareness at a very high performance and integration level to deliver scalable low-cost Ethernet switch solutions. This combination provides the advantages of network equipment vendor control over intellectual property and value add with short time-to-market associated with ASSP. Not only does this integration reduce the number of components, but it allows for programmable control of dynamic traffic behavior including dynamic security policies, distributed load-sharing/flow control, and overload protection/redirection.
