Prince Matriculation Higher Secondary School

Prince Matriculation Higher Secondary School is one of the reputed schools in Chennai, well known for producing state rank holders in X and XII standard Board examinations, through its rigorous academic schedule. It was founded by Dr. K. Vasudevan who is the present Principal and Correspondent. The school has been recognised by the State Government of Tamil Nadu. This school gives education right from Pre-Kinder Garten to XII standard.

Affiliation

The school is affiliated to both the Matriculation Board of Tamil Nadu, and the State Board of Tamil Nadu. Matriculation Board syllabus is taught till X standard, and Tamil Nadu State Board syllabus is taught in XI and XII standard.

The XI standard Common Examination comes under the control of the Kancheepuram district Board of Education.

Branches

It was originally started in Nanganallur, and then a branch was opened in Madipakkam, both of which are well known suburbs in southern Chennai.

Nanganallur

The school at Nanganallur is the Head Office. It was started on June 12, 1978.The school buildings consist of an ANNEXE,the Higher Secondary block, the lower primary block and another large plot used as the playground as well as the school's parking lot.The school litreally covers AbOUT a quarter of the land that's available on the college street its loacted on,and considering the spped at which acquisitions were once made, its not a distant future when the whole street belongs to the school itself.

Madipakkam

The school which is at Madipakkam is located on either sides of Kannagi street in Madipakkam-Puzhuthivakkam. The branch in Madipakkam was first started in Nehru Street, Madipakkam, before it was shifted to its current location on Kannagi street. Although this is a branch, more number of students study in the school in Madipakkam than the one in Nanganallur.

Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities

The management of the school organises a students' exhibition called the Students Science, Arts and Crafts Exhibition once in 3 years. Its more of a eye-wash event ,done just to break the monotony of a rigourous routine, not much of scientific interest is shown by either the faculy or the students, almost all the students fail to realise what could actually be done and end up displaying contemptable exibits with no real stuff in them.Hundreds of students of this school participate in this exhibition, some under the so called guidance of teachers and some without. This exhibition draws a huge footfall, running into a few thousands, both students and their parents from schools in and around(most of the crowd cosists of parents ,guardians and friends alone, giving the impression that the whole town is present there to fulfill their scientific impetus.), over the 2 to 3 days over which it is conducted. But it is highly regretable that most of the exibits are more of a mockery, than ones done with any serious interest. The reality is that the opening ceremony, which has a few cultural events is more eventful and worthwhile than the actual exhibition itself.

Sports competitions are held once in a year, which includes athletics, cricket, volleyball, Badminton etc. The Annual Day is the major event that is conducted every year. On this day, prizes are given away to students who excel in academics, X and XII standard Board examinations and sports. Also, fancy dress competitions, drama, dance and music competitions are held on this day, thought these are never looked at with the slightest importance due to them.

Though such events are organized, not much of emphasis is provided to any of those co-curricular or extra curricular activities. Students are expected to mug and cram the text books 24*7 and this is rigorously emphasised for the X and XII Standards. So any person who is ready to do the same is most welcome to join the esteemed organization. Also, students are expected not to look for any extra knowledge than what is given in books and any such pursuit is looked upon as vain and with contempt both from the management and most of the faculties.

This school is managed by the Prince Shri Venkateswara Trust headed by Mr.Vasudevan.

About 4000 students study in this school which employs about 250 teachers.

The school has a great potential to be one of the most illuminous schools in chennai, but with a management(which actually is another name for the chairman itself)that focuses more on cramming and results, the school is a billion steps behiend what it actually could have been. Most of the alumni of the school have turned out to be top-level achievers, but the awe for the school has turned into a sort of cynical idol-worship,blinding themselves from accepting the bare essentials.Though in its presnt way the school already has a name for itself,it could go a lot further if it decides to change it's methodology.
