Preliminary reconnaissance

Preliminary reconnaissance is the reconnaissance that is used prior to any conflicts or principal movement of troops. It is also referenced as "pre-D-Day" reconnaissance during the the events of any major theater of war or landing force projection. This method in mililtary intelligence collection is GeneRally used by force commanders to better situate and prepare his troops for best feasible landing to achieve the advantage. Usually, he will utilize his air and ground reconnaissance assets that are assigned to his general staff (Force-level) to allow immediate cohesive team planning between the Intelligence Section and recon teams.

Examples of preliminary "amphibious" reconnaissance is best displayed when the Marines of the VAC Amphib Recon Company, during World War II, would reconnoiter the beaches and land inland for the landing force commanders. The vital intelligence would dictate the actions of the commander's tactical battleplan of landing his Marines ashore.
