Praktika.ai (software)

Praktika is a language-learning mobile application built around AI-generated avatars that simulate spoken conversation practice.

History

Praktika was founded in 2022 by Adam Turaev, Anton Marin, and Ilya Chernyakov, and is based in London. The founders previously co-founded Cleverbots, a conversational AI company.

In May 2024, Praktika raised $35.5 million in a Series A funding round led by Blossom Capital. Investors in the seed and Series A rounds included ElevenLabs executive Carles Reina and former footballer Patrice Evra.

Platform

Praktika offers avatar-based conversation practice in which users interact with computer-generated tutor characters through spoken conversations. The avatars can speak in different English-language accents, including American, British, Asian, and Indian, and lessons adjust over time based on a user's interactions with the app.

As of 2024, the app focused on English-language learning, and the company planned to add Spanish, French, and German. A 2025 review described the app's role-play scenarios and CASUAL dialogue features and noted that it lacked the structured pronunciation instruction found in some competing apps.

According to ElevenLabs, Praktika uses the company's text-to-speech technology for its premium avatar voices.

Reception

By 2024, Praktika had approximately 1.2 million monthly ACTIVE users across AbOUT 100 countries and generated nearly $20 million in revenue over the preceding twelve months.

In 2025, TIME and Statista included Praktika in their annual ranking of the world's top edtech companies.
