Introduction

Plextek RF Integration (or Plextek RFI) is a member of the Plextek Ltd. group of companies.

Areas of activity

Plextek RF Integration is a UK based design house specialising in the design and development of Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFICs), Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) and microwave/mm-wave modules. Formed from Plextek Ltd's RF Integration team, it became a separate line of business within the Plextek Group in November 2012. Plextek RFI designed ICs cover baseband to 100 GHz and utilise the following technologies:

• Silicon (Si)
• Silicon Germanium (SiGe)
• Silicon on insulator (SOI)
• Gallium Arsenide (GaAs)
  • Metal–semiconductor field effect transistor (MESFET)
  • High-electron-mobility transistor (pHEMT)
  • Heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT)
  • Vertical PIN diodes (VPIN)
• Gallium Nitride (GaN)

Plextek RFI are an approved third party design house for the following III-V semiconductor foundries:

• GCS LLC
• TriQuint
• WIN Semiconductors
• Cree Inc.

Several of Plextek RFI's consultant engineers are "Agilent certified experts" recognizing their expertise in use of the Agilent EEsof EDA ADS software. RF On Wafer evaluation of ICs is undertaken using a Cascade Microtech probe station and associated test instrumentation.

Many Industry white papers, peer-reviewed publications and technical tutorials are included on the official website. A dedicated YouTube channel is available covering video-based tutorials on all aspects of RF and microwave circuit design. Plextek's CEO has recently been interviewed in Microwave Product Digest on the future of GaAs, and his views on the wireless industry, and in Microwave Journal to accompany an article of the future of mm-wave packaging. He also provides expert witness advice on MMICs and related RF, microwave and mm-wave technologies.
