Pilgrim Lutheran Church

Pilgim Lutheran Church is a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church located in in Southwest Houston, Texas (Bellaire, Texas). Worship services occur weekly at 8601 Chimney Rock Road.

History

Pilgrim Lutheran Church held its first worship service in the Bellaire City Hall on October 12 1947, with 48 worshipers in attendance. Sunday School and Bible classes started two weeks later. Soon afterward, Pilgrim changed its place of worship from the Bellaire City Hall to Harris County’s Mary and Martha Chapel at the Bayland Burnett Home for Girls on Chimney Rock.

With confidence in future growth, a one acre tract of land was purchased at 5314 Old Richmond Road (now Bissonnet) in Bellaire. Construction was begun and the new facility was dedicated in August, 1949.

In September, 1954 the Pilgrim Day School began. Today Pilgrim Lutheran School educates children from two years old through the eighth grade.

In 1955, a new chapel was dedicated at the Old Richmond Road location. The final services were held on this site in August, 1959.

The five acre tract of land on which the Pilgrim campus is currently located was dedicated in August, 1959 and worship began in the newly constructed building on that site – now used as Pilgrim’s Parish Hall.

The sanctuary currently used as Pilgrim’s worship center was dedicated on December 8 1963.
