Peter Olof Karsten

Born 23rd July 1960 in Stockholm, Peter Karsten grew up in Helsinki, London and Stockholm, and studied Applied Physics at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

Asked AbOUT his origin, Peter is most likely to quote Åland, an autonomous, demilitarised, Swedish-speaking region of Finland. Åland consists of more than 6,500 islands and skerries, of which 6,400 are larger than 3,000 m2 1. Indeed, Åland is the only place where Peter has substantial real estate and a continuous involvement since he was born.

Peter Karsten is CEO of Cecure Gaming. Cecure Gaming enables large operators to offer mobile casino and poker services. Formed in year 2000, Cecure Gaming operates the Aces Royal™, World Poker Tour (WPT) and Pokermillion casinos for cellular network providers such as Vodafone, T-Mobile, Three UK, Three Ireland, Orange, O2 and Virgin - and is the only mobile poker service linked to a cellular network operator.

Prior to Cecure Gaming, Peter Karsten was Senior Vice President at Sonera SmartTrust, a global leader in secure wireless commerce. His team delivered items such as the world’s first WAP phone with digital signatures, the world’s first Bluetooth vending machine, and the world’s first 3DES and PKI secured prepaid top-up services – nominated as most innovative product at the 2001 GSM World Congress in Cannes.

Peter Karsten was Vice President at Citigroup prior to Sonera, and as such responsible for Citigroup’s wireless strategy. The link between Sonera SmartTrust and Citigroup was created at this time, culminating in the joint venture company 724 Solutions (Sonera SmartTrust, Citibank, Bank of America and Bank of Montreal).

The most formative business period for Peter was Nokia. Peter Karsten was Wireless Services Business Development Manager at Nokia for 7 years, and wrote several World First business plans, including for the first Communicator. Prior to Nokia, Peter Karsten held international sales roles for a semiconductor companies for five years.

Peter Karsten has a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics. Peter Karsten speaks 5 languages and turned 40 in Year 2000, is married with two children, and enjoys tennis, fishing - plus the occasional hand of Texas Holdem.
