Peabody Charter School
Peabody Charter School, is an elementary school in Santa Barbara. It is part of the Santa Barbara Elementary School Districts. The school was established in 1928.
Peabody Charter School opened on August 27, 1928. The school began with six classrooms and 115 children and now has circa 700 pupils.
As a result of the baby-boom of World War II, the school grew to circa 500 in 1950. The construction of the auditorium, the separate kindergarten building, the cafeteria and six class rooms was started to address the needs of the new students. To meet safety requirements of the Field Act retrofitting was completed in 1973.
The Pinner Family Exploration Center opened in December of 2004. It includes the library, science lab and a computer lab. Many others donated and contributed to the Exploration Center and were essential to its completion.
In 1993 Peabody was granted a charter from the state. Charter schools allow the school more freedom than public schools on the curriculum development and financial expenditures.
Peabody Charter School has an excellent cafeteria program that prepares all its meals on-site. Peabody Charter School is a thriving academic learning environment and fosters an atmosphere of caring and consideration.
