Passions Network
Passions Network is a dating and social networking website, consisting of over 200 niche sites focused on varying areas of interest.
History
In 2002, Michael Carter founded a dating directory site, A Greater Date. After observing the directory expanding to include many niche sites, he and a programmer built Passions Network in 2004, starting with 100 standalone sites.
Methodology
Members can create profiles and join an unlimited amount of Passions sites. The sites are broken down by typical categories, such as religion, politics, [...] orientation and weight, as well as idiosyncratic ones, like Green-Passions (for environmentalists), Disabled Passions (for those with disabilities), Stache Passions (for mustache aficionados) and Trek Passions (for fans of science fiction). On a 2006 episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, O’Brien poked fun at Trek Passions, as he quipped, "The fans say the dating website is going great and any month now they hope a girl will join."
Users
As of March 2012, the network consists of 206 niche sites, with 2.7 million members.
