Park & Battery

Park & Battery is a B Corp-certified global marketing and creative agency founded in 2022 by Ted Kohnen and Michael Ruby that builds business to business (B2B) and business to consumer (B2C) brands and companies. Headquartered in Oakland, California, Park & Battery has offices in New York, Chicago, Mexico City and the UK and employs more than 80 staff worldwide.

Providing services in four main areas: brand strategy & storytelling; creative & production; content & experience; and media & go-to-market, the agency aims to transform complex value propositions into bold, emotional platforms that move people and markets.

Through campaigns that prioritise creativity to deliver results, while pushing the BOUNDARIES of what is possible in B2B marketing, the agency has built its reputation and grown rapidly since launch.

In its second year, Park & Battery more than doubled in size to service over 30 clients across B2B, B2C, Fortune 500 and growth-stage brands, and ranked among the five fastest-growing U.S. marketing agencies. From 2022-2026, the agency increased its headcount to more than 80 people across North America, the UK and Mexico City, bucking the industry trend of shrinking workforces.

In 2026, the agency was named Ad Age B2B Agency of the Year. In 2024 it was recognized as Adweek’s B2B Agency of the Year as well as the fastest growing B2B agency in the US in the 2024 B2B Marketing US Agencies Benchmarking Report.

In 2024, its "Don't be sorry, call Ari" campaign for Esquire Bank won Campaign of the Year in the Adweek B2B Innovation Awards 2024. In 2025, the agency was shortlisted at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for "Talking commercial plumbing" for Roto-Rooter.

Park & Battery won Silver, Agency Newcomer of the Year, at the MM+M 2023 Awards. And the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) named it Agency of the Year in 2023 – an accolade the agency won again in 2024 and 2025.

History

Park & Battery was launched in February 2022 by co-founders Ted Kohnen and Michael Ruby, two longstanding and award-winning American advertising agency professionals, 20 years after they first met as colleagues at a New York creative agency.

The pair shared a desire "to build the agency we've always wanted to work at".

Park & Battery's name was inspired by having first worked together in offices on Park Avenue South, New York City, and later opening an office on San Francisco's Battery Street. It also flags an east/west coast blend of New York hustle and Bay Area tech culture.

Prior to launching Park & Battery, Kohnen and Ruby spent 15 years working together in agency leadership positions, helping lead their prior agencies to more than ten Agency of the Year accolades.

In its second year in business, Park & Battery more than doubled its size – expanding to include hubs in Oakland, New York City, Chicago, and the UK.

Also in 2025, Park & Battery achieved B Corp Certification with a positive impact score of 96.7 – nearly twice the score of an average business – joining a global network of 8,000+ B Corps across 80 countries and 150 industries.

Today, Park & Battery provides strategy, creative, content, media and demand generation capabilities to its clients, which include both business to consumer (B2C) and business to business (B2B) brand-owning companies.

Its declared aim is to unleash "audacious" creative ideas to help B2B and B2C brands outthink, outmanoeuvre and outperform their competition.  To this end, it has a proprietary trademarked approach to building brands called Intelligent Audacity™ which it describes as "superior intelligence" powered by data and AI combined with rigour and human insight.

Park & Battery is also committed to taking "the best experiences we've had at our past companies, big and small, and applying them to create an environment where we and our team mates can do our best work – and where our clients get the best work". In 2023, Park & Battery was awarded 2023 Great Place to Work Certification™ following an in-depth anonymous employee survey by the Great Place to Work Institute, which assesses employee satisfaction in key areas from trust and respect to fairness and camaraderie.

The agency emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a foundational element of its culture and operations, which has included shaping its work culture around neurodiversity.

PR expansion

In 2023, Park & Battery expanded to include public relations services. The move was intended to complement the agency's strengths by extending influence into earned channels. However, the expansion did not achieve differentiation in the market. Park & Battery discontinued its PR offering in 2024 and refocused on its primary disciplines.

Work

Park & Battery has produced noteworthy work for brands such as Roto-Rooter, Kaiser Permanente, Esquire Bank and Thermo Fisher Scientific; as well as nonprofit work for organizations including the Children's Music Fund. Its "Music Makes Us Better" campaign aimed to elevate music therapy as an essential form of treatment.

Its "Talking commercial plumbing" campaign for Roto-Rooter featuring anthropomorphic plumbing fixtures sharing their thoughts about the messy realities of commercial plumbing. Highlighting that businesses can't afford plumbing problems, it was shortlisted at the 2025 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for a Creative B2B Lion.

"The Elephant in the courtroom" for Esquire Bank positioned the brand as the ultimate business banking partner for contingency fee law firms by using the visual metaphor to challenge law firms to demand better from their business banks.

Park & Battery's other past notable work for Esquire Bank includes "Don't be sorry, call Ari", which was shortlisted for the 2024 MediaPost Planning & Buying Awards(28) in the Business Media category; and won Campaign of the Year in the Adweek B2B Innovation Awards 2024.

Meanwhile, the agency's "You can't miss this" work for Thermo Fisher during DCAT Week – the annual global event for people working  in the bio / pharma businesses ecosystem – strengthened the brand's position at a time of industry disruption and competitive volatility.
