Panayiotis Jacovides
Panayiotis Jacovides (born 1985) is a professional rugby player.
Early life
Jacovides was born in Limassol, Cyprus to Greek-Cypriot parents. He exhibited an early talent for sports, and following school, entered the armed forces as an officer. He was awarded the metal of honour in 2005 for dedication to the special forces.
Career
Jacovides moved to France to attend school, and the rugby coach suggested he try out for the Rugby Union Team. Jacovides was not able to participate in the World Cup.
Charity work
Panayiotis is involved in various charities. He established Jacovides Foundation in 2006 to help disadvantaged people and to promote sports to young people. He is appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF from 2007. Since then, he has visited Tamil Nadu, one of the most tsunami-affected areas in India, and South Africa. He has also appeared in UNICEF public messages to raise the public awareness of AIDS.
