Paintball Sniper

Many people will tell you that there is no such thing as a "Paintball Sniper" or that the term is an oxymoron. There is the claim that all paintball guns have roughly the same range that no player could be called a sniper. This is a concept held by with a "tunnel vision" understanding of the paintball game.

A sniper is not just a person shooting long ranges, the United States Army states that AbOUT 20% of a snipers time is spent shooting. The balance of a sniper's time is spent gathering intel about the enemy and relaying that back to command. The main purpose of the sniper is to identify, asses and disable valuable targets at extended ranges with aimed fire, and with as little ammunition as possible. This single shot capability can be acquired with non STOCK paintball equipment. There has been some effort in making an off the shelf Paintball Sniper but just like their military counterparts most purchase equipment and customize it to their own needs.

However some other players would argue that there is such a thing - a player who stays quiet and fires only a couple of rounds at a time. Most Paintball Snipers make use of superior stealth to get close to their target and mark them using as few shots as possible.

Snipers live by the motto "One shot, One Kill". Most paintball players don't have a chance at downing their target in one shot. Even some who claim to be paintball snipers "Spray and Pray". Some paintball snipers quickly move to a position after the start of the game, they then lay in wait. This is referred to as an Ambush Sniper. Other players move just as quickly at the start of the game and work with their field commander to flank and create ambushes, move and ambush again. This process quickly demoralizes the enemy as they don't know where the shot will come from next. It takes nerves of steel to be a paintball sniper. You must let the enemy walk deadly close to you.

You need to remain still when you are a sniper. The human eye can detect very slight movments, and the eyes send a message to the brain telling that it needs to focus on that movement. So most snipers use camouflage to remain unseen. However camo can only make you harder to see, not invisible.

Snipers also need to remain silent. To do this you should carry less paint then most players and if you do decided to carry lots of paint carry it in cloth or leather rather than plastic pods that rattle and make noise. You also want to remain quiet while shooting.
