Pain Hertz

Pain Hertz is an American avant rock band formed in 2003. They have released 6 CDs to date. Their most well known CD is 2007's Pretentious Rock, which was well distributed in the New York underground music scene at many shows before being officially released. In 2006, Michael Kaplan left the group to pursue other interests, and the group continued on as a three piece. They became known for their mash-up cover, incorporating Danzig and Michael Jackson. The drummer, Nick Wolven, is also a published science fiction author. The band still frequently appears on the New York music scene.
History
Formed in 2003 by Michael Kaplan, Alex Lozupone, and Nick Wolven, the band auditioned several bassists for several improvised jam sessions, most of which were released online. The band eventually settled on Micah Chalmer (brother of Eli Chalmer of Panacea, a well reviewed groove fusion band) as bassist, and started recording/releasing demos as well as playing live shows. Their debut show, in 2004 at the Trash Bar, was covered in the L magazine. In 2006, while working on their third album, Michael Kaplan announced that he would leave the band, which continued on as a three-piece. For a good part of their early career, they refused to release their material commercially for profit, stating on their website "Pain Hertz is clearly not in it for the money, and is also a lazy bunch. Rather than offering merchandise for sale, we are offering everything up for download at the above links.".

Michael Kaplan solo
Michael Kaplan left the group in 2006 to concentrate on his solo work - his upcoming solo album is being produced with veteran producer Jimmy Wilgus. Drummer Joe Bergamini has confirmed that he will be working on the project. According to Joe's blog, "I will be playing on an album with progressive artist Michael Kaplan, which will be produced by my old friend (and 4 Front keyboard player) Jimmy Wilgus. Recording will take place later this fall.".
Alex Lozupone
Lozupone was in a band called Law of Nature in the early 1990s, who recorded and copyrighted one recording, "Sessions of Turpitude". He then released several solo CDs independently, under the name of AlexQ. Some material from these CDs was used as the primary source in a well known audio codec survey),
Lozupone also contributed a remix to the Deerhoof remix contest for the song RRRRRight. The song featured additional echo, stereo delay, and drum tracks.
