Pacific Crest Transformers
Started in 1919, Pacific Crest Transformers is one of the oldest companies engaged in the design and construction of liquid-filled energy transformers.
Over the years Pacific Crest Transformers (PCT) has changed its name and ownership several times
- 1919 – Standard Transformer, Warren, Ohio
- 1969 – Pacific Standard, Medford, Oregon
- 1979 – Balteau Standard Inc.
- 1994 – GEC ALSTHOM
- 1998 – ALSTOM T&D Inc – Transformers
- 2004 – AREVA T&D Inc. – Transformers
- 2007 – Pacific Crest Transformers
PCT has expertise in manufacturing custom built energy transformers for a range of industry verticals including Petrochemical, Steel, Mining, Furnace Manufacturing, Variable Frequency Drive Manufacturing and Wind Farms.
Pacific Crest Transformers and the Environment
PCTs environmental initiative began 29 years ago in 1980. The end of the 1960s and the start of the 1970s marks a time in the electrical industry when a fledgling government agency called the Department Of Environmental Quality targeted materials in common usage as possible carcinogens. Among those materials was the family of dielectric fluids with chlorine based compounds, namely Ploychlorinatedbiphenyls ( PCB).
PCT, then operating under the name of Balteau Standards Inc., acted to stop usage of the targeted materials, ‘clean’ the facility and limit employee exposure and contamination for future products. The government followed suit by mandating replacement of all PCB products in use and a country-wide replacement program was put in place, lasting well into the 1980s.
Around 1980 PCT established a director of environmental quality who reported directly to the CEO. This commitment produced a number of results, including:
- By 1990 PCT had eliminated the use of solvents like trichlorethelyne in fabrication facility.
- In 1994 PCT completed the construction of a new PCB free/solvent free facility in Oregon, with the goal to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
- PCT designed special light gathering skylights that when coupled to an on-demand lighting system in the fabrication area reduced power consumption and saved $100 per day in lighting costs.
In 1994 PCT published an environmental impact sensitivity study to address 6 major areas of concern, Air quality, Noise pollution, Storm Water Run-off quality, Industrial Waste Discharge, Greenhouse Gas contribution, Groundwater and Soil contamination. This is the basis of PCTs present day Environmental policy.
In 2002 PCT changed its welding materials to reduce exhaust vapors from its metal fabrication facility.
In 2003, PCT obtained its ISO 1400 environmental certificate which is incorporated into the present company.
