P-64 Ferret Patrol Fighter
The P-64 Ferret Patrol Fighter is a fictional spacecraft found in the Wing Commander universe. Its first appearance was in Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi.

It is both faster and boast about double the armor of the Epee. A common complaint from pilots about the Epee is its extremely light armor, which the Ferret made up for. Main weaponry of the Ferret was a pair of mass drivers. While not as long ranged as particle beams, the weapons are very reliable and effective. The only real complaint about the Ferret was the patrol fighter mounted no missile hard points.
Later, the Confederation introduced an upgraded version of the Ferret, The p-64D "SUPER Ferret" in the year 2667. Improvements in this "Super Ferret" include improved flight systems and the addition of a pair of heat-seeking missiles. Even with these upgrades, the "Super Ferret" was still far less expensive to manufacture than the Epee.
Namesake
- The P-64 Ferret was named after the Ferret mammal. Ferrets drive out pests such as rabbits and rats from their burrows, which is what the P-64 Ferret was designed for; removing "pests" from their assigned sectors.
