Oxford International Relations Society

Oxford international relations society is a student society open to members of Oxford University.

The International Relations Society of Oxford University, sometimes misnamed the Oxford International Relations Society, was founded in January 2009 by Undergraduates of the University of Oxford. It has since played host to a variety of notable speakers, including The Prime Minister of Thailand Abhisit Vejjajiva , Professor Avi Shlaim , Norman Finkelstein and others. The society's senior members include Professors Walter Mattli and Vijay Joshi.

The International Relations Society hosted a single event with the student publication the Oxford Internationalist. It is linked to the Harvard International Relations Council

Prime Minister of Thailand

In March 2009, The International Relations Society was criticised by Professors Lee Jones of Oxford University and Associate Professor Giles Ji Ungpakhorn of Thailand for inviting the Prime Minsiter of Thailand, Mr Abhisit Vejjajiva. Prof Jones and Prof Ungpakhorn organised a protest outside St John's College, Oxford, where the talk was held. The President of the International Relations Society has since defended his actions on Prof Lee Jones blog.
