Other V.F.D. Animals

In the the childrens' book series A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, V.F.D. is in control of a large variety of animals including V.F.D. Eagles and V.F.D. Crows. V.F.D. was also in possesion of other animals that were important in their operations.

V.F.D. Donkeys

In The Carnivorous Carnival, the Baudelaires recall a visit to a vineyard (possibly the Vineyard of Fragrant Grapes), in which they were carried by donkey-drawn carts. These donkeys have been speculated to be among the ranks of V.F.D.-trained animals.

V.F.D. Crickets

The V.F.D. Crickets, like Uncle Monty's Reptile Collection are trained to sniff out arson. They communicate the words "Summer is over and gone, dying, dying" when they the would like to inform a volunteer that there are villains nearby, and they are starting a fire. They can also communicate songs.

V.F.D. Bats

Both the elder and younger Beatrice Baudelaire were baticeers — Volunteers who trained the V.F.D. bats to carry letters (like homing pigeons), so that they might make fine vermin flying dispatches. These bats might have also been sighted in the last picture of The Penultimate Peril in the upper left hand corner. These bats are completely irrelevent to The End.

Other

It is also hinted at in The Grim Grotto that V.F.D. trained salmon in a process known as Voluntary Fish Domestication. They were to swim upstream and search for forest fires; however, the entire "fleet" was captured by Café Salmonella, and presumably eaten proving that the waitors at the restuaraunt's waitors are villans. It also hints in the same book that there may be V.F.D. snails used for Volatile Fungus Deporation to transport the Medusoid Mycleium by growing on thier shells and going to any destination they were told by the villan side of V.F.D., probably how Anwhistle Aquatics obtained the fungus.
