Online enrollment
Online enrollment is a facility whereby an institution - often educational, such as a university or a high school - allows applicants to enroll for attendance using the internet.
Institutions like universities often have complex and length enrollment procedures, since enrollment often includes selecting courses, a schedule, and residence. Traditionally, this was done with paper forms sent and returned through the mail.
With increased internet use in the mid- and late-90's, however, some institutions arranged for enrollment that could be carried out by this method. The main advantage is speed, since no forms must be mailed back and forth, and confirmation of enrollment or any further changes can also be made more quickly.
While universities and their students are the biggest users of online enrollment, any institution that requires applicants to enroll for membership could make use of online enrollment.
