Omar Johnson (Marketing Executive)
Omar Johnson is an American marketing executive notable for his work with Kraft Foods, Campbell Soup, Coca-Cola and Beats by Dre.
Johnson joined Beats by Dre in 2010 as Vice President of Marketing after being Nike’s advertising lead for six years. Beats by Dre revenue that year was $200 million, and by 2013, it had reached $1 billion. In 2014, Apple bought the company for $3 billion and in November 2016, Johnson left the company.
During his time at Beats by Dre, Johnson was recognized for his innovative marketing approach. He was given one of Adweek’s 2013 Brand Genius awards and in 2015, Johnson was named one the year’s 30 most creative people in advertising by Business Insider.
Johnson is known for his use of social media for marketing and for enabling celebrity partners to use his brand to “tell their stories.” He said, “We saw people asking [athletes] not to wear Beats but they said this is a company that supports me and is telling my story from my point of view so I’m going to wear them.”
Johnson has not announced joining a new company, but he is an investor in Wifi solutions company, Luma.
