Olivier Martin

Olivier Martin (born 12 May 1988) is an Australian ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Newcastle North Stars in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Playing career

Martin first played for the Adelaide Avalanche of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) in 2004. During his first season with the Avalanche Martin received no ice time. The following season Martin played eight games and finished with a save percentage of 0.910. After his first two season in the AIHL with the Avalanche Martin moved to Newcastle, New South Wales and signed with the Newcastle North Stars for his third AIHL season. After playing the 2006 AIHL season with the North Stars Martin returned to Adelaide and re-signed with the Avalanche for the start of the 2007 AIHL season. Martin remained with the Avalanche until 2008 when the team folded. Following the collapse of the Avalanche Martin signed with the newly formed Adelaide Adrenaline. Martin played for the Adrenaline for three seasons from 2009 until 2011, winning the Goodall Cup in 2009. In 2012 Martin announced that he would be leaving the Adrenaline and be moving to Canberra. After relocating Martin was approached by a number of AIHL clubs, with Martin eventually signing with the North Stars for the 2012 AIHL season.

Martin was first called-up to represent Australia in 2006 where he joined the national under-18 team to compete in the 2006 IIHF World U18 Championship Division II Group B tournament being held in Elektrėnai and Kaunas, Lithuania. Australia finished third while Martin, playing four games, finished with a save percentage of 0.839. In 2012 Martin was selected for the national senior team to compete in the 2012 IIHF World Championship Division I Group B tournament being held in Krynica, Poland. Australia finished last and were relegated to Division II Group A for the following year while Martin was played in only one of the teams five games, conceding six goals.

Personal life

Martin was born on 12 May 1988 in Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Canada. He holds a Masters of Architecture and currently lives in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia.
