Odin's Court

Overview

Odin's Court can best be described as a "progressive metal" and rock band from Maryland, USA, though their sound is diverse and doesn't really fit under any one genre. The band's music has a large range of influences, including Pink Floyd, Symphony X, Rush, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Journey, and Boston. However, Odin's Court never uses their influences as models for their own music. Odin's Court currently is an independent band searching for a label.

Albums

The band has had several releases since their inception in 2001.

Driven By Fate, their first full length album, included several ambitions pieces. The Driven By Fate suite of songs dealt with the contemplation of life and death, while several other songs dealt with loss and betrayal. The band has also been fond of writing songs based on literature. The group of songs “Paradise Lost” were based off of John Milton’s classic epic Poem. “His Dark Materials” was based on Philip Pullman’s trilogy “His Dark Materials”, and told a summary of the novels set to a backdrop of a surreal musical landscape.

Due to line up changes, the band wasn’t able to move forward for several years, and when things stabilized, Redriven By Fate was released on March 21, 2006. This album was comprised of select songs from Driven By Fate re-recorded with new arrangements, along with new acoustic compositions and a few acoustic arrangements of the Driven By Fate songs.

On March 24, 2006, the band shot footage for their first live DVD release at the infamous Jaxx Night Club in Springfield, VA. This DVD was released on September 12, 2006.

Odin's Court recently completed a concept album of new material entitled Deathanity, tentatively due out in 2008. It will feature several guest musicians on sax, guitar, and backing vocals, as well as Tony Kakko (best known for his work with Sonata Arctica and another yet to be announced guest singer.
